Standard definition lenses are much cheaper than HD lenses. A new HD lens costs $30k. An existing HD lens may already be paid for so the temptation exists to create a "cut rate" deal. Easy enough to do by trimming $60k of the cost of owning a camera package! So the cut price deal isn't good value because you are not paying for quality lenses. Not only are they not as sharp they do not "see" into the shadows as well and so shadow detail is lost. Since one of the benefits of HD is to be able to underexpose a little to retain highlight detail, then later lifting up the shadows in the grade, you can see that using standard def lenses is not a good idea at all. And just look at the aberrations on the edges of the frame below!

Moreover these lenses are being paired with the limited colour depth of the 10bit HDW 750 camera. What a slippery slope!
